Youth Classes and Workshops - Summer

 

Dragon Theatre is proud to offer a number of summer classes for children aged 8 and up. These classes are designed to be both fun and to develop critical skills like creative thinking, communication, public speaking, and more. We think we've got a little something for every child. 2 Hour Classes

 

Acting Games for Kids

6/14/18 - 10:00am - 12:00pm

Ages 9 - 12

Cost: $40

Get an introduction to acting and theatre fundamentals through fun games and activities. The games and activities are customized based on the age and experience level of the participating students during each session.

 

Voice and Movement for Kids

6/15/18 - 10:00am - 12:00pm

Ages 9 - 12

Cost: $40

Learn about the inner workings of your body and your voice through a combination of fun games and theatre exercises. Use that knowledge to create many zany and exciting characters on stage. 

 

4 Hour Classes

 

Acting Intensive for Teens

6/14/18 - 1:00pm - 5:00pm

Ages 13 - 18

Cost: $60

Experience a survey of acting techniques. Learn an actor’s warm-up and practice your new skills on delivering some monologues and scenes.

 

Voice and Movement for Teens

6/15/18 - 1:00pm - 5:00pm

Ages 13 - 18

Cost: $60

Grow an awareness of the inner workings of your body and your voice. Learn to harness that awareness to create countless interesting and different characters on stage.

 

 

Summer Camps

 

Faerie Tale Theatre Camp

3 Sessions Available: 6/18/2018 - 6/22/2018, 6/25/2018 - 6/29/2018 & 7/31/2018 - 8/3/2018

(Students may sign up for multiple sessions)

10:00am - 12:00pm (A short parent demonstration on final day)

Ages 6-10

Cost: $225

Min: 4 Max: 12

Create new mini-plays based on faerie tales by playing games and participating in fun theatre activities and writing projects. The process of creating a new theatrical piece will help students develop language and communication skills and exercise their collaborative and problem solving abilities. Each session will involve new faerie tales and activities as well as repetition of favorite games.

 

Tales of Adventure Theatre Camp

7/2/2018 – 7/6/2018 (No Class on 7/4)

10:00am - 12:00pm (A short parent demonstration on final day)

Ages 8+

Cost: $180

Min: 4 Max: 12

Create new mini-plays based on myths, legends and tales of adventure!  While making your plays, you will participate in fun theatre activities, stage combat workshops and writing projects. The process of creating a new theatrical piece will help students develop language and communication skills and exercise their collaborative and problem solving abilities.

 

Dragon Theatre Academy: Physical Comedy Intensive

6/18/2018 - 6/22/2017

1:00pm - 5:00pm (A short parent demonstration on final day)

Ages 10 - 18

Cost: $350

Min: 4 Max:12

Learn about things like pratfalls, repetition and the rule of threes. Begin developing your body awareness and learn how the right move at just the right time can create laughter across cultural and language barriers. Apply all the principles you’re learning to creating short solo and group pieces throughout the week.

 

Dragon Theatre Academy: The Academy

7/30/2018 - 8/3/2018

1:00pm – 5:00pm (A short parent demonstration on final day)

Ages 10 - 14

Cost: $350

Min: 4 Max: 12

Learn about all about what it takes to make theatre. Learn about the different jobs in theatre and meet actual theatre professionals to learn about their job and ask them questions. Create short performances with your friends, and learn about collaboration and creativity throughout the camp.

 

Dragon Theatre Academy: The Teen Academy

6/25/2018 - 7/6/2018 (Mon - Fri Only) (No Class on 7/4)

1:00pm – 5:00pm (A short performance salon on final day)

Ages 13 - 18

Cost: $585

Min: 4 Max: 12

Learn about all different angles of theatre-making ranging from design and production to performance and creating material. Study with a number of industry professionals in master classes and Q&A sessions. Apply your new skills throughout the two weeks in working with your fellow students to create new performances to share with friends and family on the final day. 

 

About the Teacher, Max Koknar:
 

  • Actor, Consultant with First Person Travel on NYT Featured Headlands Gamble
  • Lead Actor, Writer, Co-Director, Co-Artistic Director on SFWeekly Featured Ancien Regime
  • Story and Audience Experience Designer on a collaboration with Finnish government (The Decameron Project 2017) at the old Outokumpu mine.
  • Consultant/Guest Lecturer/Teaching Artist/Coach in collaboration with U.C. Berkeley (Berkeley, CA), Adventure Design Group (San Francisco, CA), The Ohio State University (Columbus, OH), Willow Glen Elementary Tiger Theatre (San Jose, CA), Daniel Wright Elementary (Dublin, OH),  Theatre of All Possibilities (Various Bay Area, CA), California Theatre Center (Various, CA, NV, WA, OR), Northside Theatre (San Jose, CA), Crowded Fire (San Francisco, CA), Triangle Lab (Bay Area, CA) and the Arena Stage (Washington DC)
  • Have performed in front of nearly 500,000 people over the course of my career.
  • Past collaborators and teachers include movement coaches who’ve worked for the Blue Man Group and Marvel’s Thor, students and collaborators of Marcel Marceau, Obie Award Winners, and Cirque du Soleil clowns.
