Renting the Dragon Theatre

Dragon’s #1 priority is the rehearsal and production of Dragon shows and classes. We welcome guest rentals as we are able around our own rehearsals and events. Please check our performance dates or events calendar to get an idea of when the theatre may be available, and then submit a rental request form to rentals@dragonproductions.net .

Rent a nice, clean, black-box theatre located in the heart of downtown Palo Alto for your class, production, or special event. Just down the street from Stanford University, there are over 60 restaurants in a 5 block radius of the theatre.

Fees and Policies

For classes, rehearsals, or small private events, either the performance area or the studio area can be rented for $25/hour, for a minimum of 2 hrs. This rate is for shared-usage (someone may be working in the other space during your rental/other production items might also be on the premises during your usage).

For exclusive usage of the entire theatre for private workshops, video shoots etc, the space is available for $75 for the first 2 hrs, and $35/hr for each hour thereafter. This does not include use of the tech booth unless by special arrangement.

Complete facility rental for performance purposes (for audiences, private parties or any groups 20+) will be $250/4 hours.  This covers use of lighting, dressing room, and all other theatre amenities specified in the contract agreement. (this is exclusive usage of the facility, but there could still be a set on the stage, inquire for more specific details)

For hourly rentals of 2 hours, the renter will be asked to pay in full at signing. For rentals above 2 hours, a deposit of ½ the rental fee is due upon signing the contract to reserve the space. ¼ of the fee is due 2 weeks before first admittance to the theatre. The remaining balance is due on final day of the rental (eg. after the last performance and strike). Other contract agreements may be made with the rental coordinator as needed.

The RENTER also agrees to pay a security deposit of $200 which will be reimbursed in accordance with successful completion of the terms of this agreement, if not used for cleaning or repairs. This should be a separate check that will not be deposited.

$200 Six Month Early Bird Security Deposit/Reservation Fee: If a reservation is made more than six months in advance the security deposit check doubles as a reservation deposit - if there is a cancellation or drastic change (subject to rental coordinator determination) to your timeline, that $200 is forfeit. Rescheduling will require the submittal of a new security deposit.

Cancellations: Cancellation subsequent to signing this contract of any or all of these reserved dates with a less than 45 day written notice to Dragon Productions shall result in the forfeiture of any monies already submitted for rental reservation. If RENTER notifies Dragon Productions of a cancellation more than 45 days prior to first reserved date, rental payments will be returned in full to RENTER. This refund specifically does not include the $200 Six Month Early Bird Reservation Fee.

If the space is rented for a private coaching session of 2 hours or less, and the student cancels at the last minute, the student should be held responsible for the space rental (unless it’s an emergency situation), so that neither Dragon, nor the teacher are out the rental fee. In case of emergencies, rescheduling may be made possible.

Rentals are all first-come-first-serve. The contract must be signed, security deposit and first payment submitted to secure a reservation. No contract, no security deposit, no payment = no guaranteed reservation.

While no longer a mandatory requirement, all outside renters are recommended to have their own Special Event liability insurance coverage.

All outside renters will be either let into the building or given the key. Arrangements will be made upon contract signing.

All outside renters will be responsible for items in the theatre and the placement of these items. If outside items will be used, the renter promises to leave the theatre as it was found upon arrival. Special arrangements and details should be shared upon contract signing.
