Beginning Improv

Workshop Leader: Susie Danzig

Eight Wednesdays (7:00pm - 9:00pm), March 24 through May 19 (No class April 28.)

Cost: $240 for eight sessions ($200 if you sign up before March 17.)

Workshop is limited to 12 participants.  Ages 18 and up, please.

Improvisation is play. Improvisation is fun. Improvisation is a skill that anyone can learn.

Improvisational theatre skills - being spontaneous, listening, making your partner look good, failing good-naturedly, taking risks - can have a positive impact on people's lives beyond the stage: at home, work, and in interpersonal relationships.

Using the techniques of improvisational theater with a small group in a safe, friendly, and fun atmosphere, this workshop focuses on increasing your ability to think, speak, and act spontaneously. You will play short improv games and experiment with creating characters and scenes, all as a fun way to develop a more nimble and responsive engagement with life.

As one student said, "You can learn new ways to 'play' at any age. I did when I was sixty years old!"

Come and join the fun. Newcomers and experienced improvisers welcome.

Intermediate Improv
Workshop Leader: Terry Sandke

Eight Tuesdays, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm, March 30 through May 25 (No class on April 27)

Cost: $240 for eight sessions ($200 for eight sessions if you sign up before March 23.)

Workshop is limited to 12 participants.  Ages 18 and up please.

This eight-session workshop continues the fun exploration of improvisation in a safe, friendly, and fun atmosphere while refining your improv knowledge and skills. You will use tools you've developed in your Beginning Improv class as you learn more games and explore your own style of play.

While the emphasis is still on fun, the class will explore more conceptual and technical information.  It will introduce you to some of the skills needed to perform improvisational theatre in front of an audience.

Concepts include teamwork, status, character, relationships, objectives, genre, locations, narrative, and scene work.

Students will leave the class understanding the basics of improvising two and three character narrative scenes in two common genres.

The workshop is aimed at people that have completed a Beginning Improv class.  Attendance at the first meeting, though not mandatory, is highly recommended.

2010 Dragon’s Summer Acting Camp for ages 8-11

June 14-25

Monday-Friday, 9am to 1pm

Final showcase featuring each student

Saturday June 26 @ 3pm

$300

Max. 12 students

Not the same old children’s acting camp.  Your children are young artists in our eyes & we want to nurture that.  They will learn the basics of acting, or develop the acting skills they’ve already acquired, in a fun and stimulating environment. The first half of each day will be spent working on voice, movement, and character through games and exercises. The latter part of the day will be dedicated to working on pieces that each child will be featured in & will be presented in a showcase for friends & family. Because we have 2 teachers for each camp, each young artist will receive a great deal of personal attention.  They will be working on scenes & monologues from Tony award-winning plays as well as song & dance numbers (some that they’ve conceived of themselves).  The focus of the camp will be the development of a character and of an interactive relationship their fellow artists.
