Beginning Improv Class

Workshop Leader: Terry Sandke

Seven Wednesdays (7:00pm - 9:00pm), February 1 through March 14

Cost: $245 for seven sessions ($210 if you sign up before January 25)*

Workshop is limited to 12 participants. Ages 18 and up, please.

Three reasons to take a Beginning Improv class:

- To laugh and have fun
- To loosen up, be more creative, and be more spontaneous
- To overcome fear of speaking extemporaneously in front of people

Improv skills — trusting your spontaneous reactions, trusting your partner, and trusting agreement to move things forward — can positively impact your life: at home, at work, and in interpersonal relationships.  And – you don't have to be an actor or comedian to develop those skills.  Why?  Because you improvise every day, and have been doing it since you were born.

Using improvisational theater exercises with a small group in a safe, friendly, and fun atmosphere, this workshop will help you trust your own ability to think, speak, and act spontaneously.  You will play short improv games and experiment with creating characters and scenes, all as a fun way to develop a more nimble and responsive engagement with your life.  You will leave the class understanding the fundamental skills underlying all improv performances.

As one student said, "I love this class!”  Come and play.  Have fun with us.  Meet some fun people.   No experience required.  Shy people welcome!

Terry Sandke, workshop leader, has been teaching Improv at Dragon Productions since 2007.  He was a founding member of the San Francisco Improv troupe, "Spontaneous Combustion" and has been an improv performer for 15 years - 11 as a BATS Improv Sunday Player in San Francisco.

*With two-hour sessions fitting the schedules of working adults, smaller classes, and lower prices, Dragon Productions' workshops are the best Improv class value on the Peninsula and in the South Bay.

Intermediate Improv Class

Workshop Leader: Terry Sandke

Seven Mondays, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm, January 30 through March 12 *

Cost: $245 for seven sessions ($210 for seven sessions if you sign up before January 23) *

Workshop is limited to 12 participants. Ages 18 and up please.*

This seven-session workshop provides a safe and friendly atmosphere to have fun, explore improv and refine your knowledge and skills. Using tools developed in your Beginning Improv class, you will learn more games and explore your own style of play.

While still emphasizing fun, the class will explore some of the skills needed to perform improvisational theatre in front of an audience. Concepts include teamwork, status, character, relationships, genre, locations, space objects, and narrative structure. The class will delve into full scenes and comedy show games while having fun and celebrating risk taking.

Students will leave the class understanding the basics of improvising two and three character narratively-driven scenes.

The workshop is aimed at people that have completed a Beginning Improv class.
